So, apparently, audiences are not able to relate to a Mexican family as much as they are able to relate to a white family. The Impossible's director, a Hispanic man, justified the whitewashing by saying that he wanted the story to be as universal as possible. Though it's not nearly as bad as it was in The Impossible, a fact-based story about a Mexican family surviving the horrible 2004 earthquake/tsunami that hit the Indian ocean. Yes, yes, the whitewashing in this movie is about as egregious as I've ever seen in any film in recent memory.
